Sažetak
Transport is the base of every modern economy and one of the primary factors of development. Although each of the transport system operates on the market principles, it is necessary to cautiously coordinate their development so it could in the most suitable way, satisfy the needs of some state´s or region´s economics. An adequate transport policy is necessary to determine links between the goals, the instruments and the subjects that will lead to the desired or optimal transport system structure. Transport in the South East Europe region (as in other transition economies) has not yet received a substantial theoretical reflection, nor are all relevant factors that influence the development of transport being considered in practice. Given the positive impact that a developed transport system can have on a country´s economy, the role of transport in the economy of the South East Europe countries should be carefully examined, possibilities of future developments explored and consequently adequate solutions offered.
