Sažetak
Coastal nursery habitats are essential for the renewal of adult fish populations. Temporal trends in the structure of juvenile fish communities were examined in the middle Adriatic (Duce-Glava). The individuals were caught using a small shore seine on monthly basis in 2000 and from March, 2017 to February 2018 on seasonal basis. A total of 19 fish families and 52 species were recorded in 2000 while a decline of 26% and 21% in number of families and species were obtained in 2018. Most diverse family were Sparidae comprising 8 species in 2000, and 7 species in 2018. The most abundant and frequently observed species was the big-scale sand smelt, Atherina boyeri while the striped seabream, Lithognathus mormyrus showed the most significant decline of 99, 81 % after 18 years. Trends in abundance and biomass indicated significant decline overtime 44.4 % and 62.8 % in the study period, respectively, probably as response to human- induced factors such as fisheries and habitat modification due climate changes.
