Sažetak
Croatia is a coastal state with a deeply indented coastline and with a large number of islands, islets, rocks and reefs along the coast in its immediate vicinity, which makes it possible for Croatia to have a very broad belt of internal waters. The maritime areas offshore and along the Croatian coast are only geographically a uniform whole with equal physical and chemical characteristics. The Republic of Croatia has fully authority over the areas closest to its coast (internal waters and territorial sea). Its authority gradually weakens in the areas towards the open sea (continental shelf) to disappear entirely in the area of the high seas (superjacent waters of Croatia's continental shelf).
