Sažetak
Use of cultural heritage for tourism purposes is for a quite long time now an established practice in tourism, although not without concerns. Many researchers share justified apprehension for possible negative effects of touristic valorisation of heritage. The most notable are commodification of culture (e.g. Greenwood, 1977) but examples also include undesirable effects on host community such as exclusion, increased pressure on local resources, conflicts and limited contribution to the economic status of local residents (Go, Lee et al., 2005). Nevertheless, positive effects of using heritage in tourism cannot be set aside. As many case studies show, positive outcomes are more common when local community is involved. Participation of local community and use of local identity and tradition also encourages product efficacy. Higher level of visitor satisfaction, sustainability of the destination and profitability are some possible positive consequences of participative approach. Furthermore, and of our special interest, is the potential development of greater social cohesion as a side effect of local community involvement in touristic valorisation of heritage (Dümcke and Gnedovsky, 2013). Social cohesion is reflected in different ways e.g. increased community interaction, increased intergenerational dialogue, emergence of new activities in community, place attachment etc.
