Sažetak
In a smart city environment, the primary goal of the operation is realized through energy management and the level of comfort. The energy consumption may increase to maintain a higher level of comfort. However, with energy resources depleting day by day the energy crisis has become a burning issue, and, in this scenario, every single unit saved is regarded as an energy resource. This problem led to find alternative sources of energy and to intensify the energy efficiency in operation. The commercial buildings are the big consumer of electricity and they play an important role in a sustainable city and society. In these buildings, energy consumption mainly depends upon the behavior of the person being involved, technical standards, and the surrounding environmental conditions, and therefore, these constraints define the living standard and comfort level for a sustainable society. In the literature, several works have been presented in which researchers focused on the technical constraints with less emphasis on social and environmental constraints. In this work, these constraints are imposed for intensification of energy efficiency in commercial use. The proposed problem is formulated in the MATLAB environment and the results are demonstrated for a big commercial site. Here, different performance indices are developed for energy saving and comfort level. The results are compared with and without demand-side management under different operating conditions by imposing the constraints. Moreover, the energy-saving potential of the proposed approach is evaluated and it is compared when the problem is formulated in a conventional approach under the same operating conditions.
