Sažetak
Today it is generally agreed that conceptual organization makes an important part of terminological work (Faber 2012: 252). The key in the development of modern terminology is the study of conceptual systems in specialized languages, as well as the study of the relations between concepts and terms (cf. Nahod 2016: 38). This paper analyses French and Croatian terms, i.e. specialized knowledge units related to motor vehicles extracted from a parallel corpus from the EUR-Lex database. Some of the terms containing the lexeme dispositif are: dispositif de fixation – Cro. naprava za pričvršćivanje ‘fastening device’ and Fr. dispositif de vision indirecte – Cro. retrovizor ʻrear-view mirrorʼ. In the Croatian equivalents, dispositif is translated by different lexemes, such as: uređaj ‘machine’, naprava ‘device’, spojnica ‘coupling’, retrovizor ‘rear-view mirror’, etc. Such examples demonstrate that within a single branch, the polysemous French term dispositif, accompanied by its various complements, is used with a rather large number of meanings. Not only does this fact point to major differences in lexicalization between French and Croatian in a part of special field terminology, but it also has important implications for the translation of specialized texts.
