Sažetak
Fir forests in Croatia grow in the regions of high Karst where they stock an area of approximately 165.000 ha. In the Dinaric region (I), Fir is found in mixed forests with Beech in 13 ecological-managerial forest types (EMFT) while in the Pannonian (II) and Mediterranean (III) regions Silver fir can be found in 1 EMFT respectively. Global changes during this century irreversibly changed forest ecosystems, the consequences of which can be seen in the transparency of Silver fir tree crowns and absence of natural reforestation of selected fir forests. These changes have been monitored during the last fifteen years applying our own methodology, and reports have been issued on several occasions Investigations have been carried out in acknowledged seed stands of Silver Fir in Dinaric (I) and in Mediterranean (III) regions on three geological foundations: schist, dolomite and limestone, including four crown defoliation classes ( 0, 1, 2, 3, with 3 indicating the heaviest damage ). Laboratory analyses of the forest seed quality are performed according to ISTA norms , and sowing is carried out with Silver fir seed in the central nursery which is situated in the center of the Dinaric region (I). All examined samples have an average of laboratory germination capacity of 19, 31 %. Nursery germination capacity of investigated samples was significantly lower than in the laboratory and on average amounted only 6, 98 %. Both germination capacities were influenced by the site quality, stand age and degree of crown defoliation.
