Sažetak
Geostatistical techniques are often used to generate previsions of input parameters in deterministic mathematical models as groundwater flow models from field data random variable in space. This abstract underline the important role of geostatistics not only during the implementation of a groundwater numerical model but also during its calibration process. The variance of kriging estimation error (estimation variance) calculated during a kriging procedure (Isaaks & Srivastava, 1989) may be helpful in making decision about how and where to proceed with adjustments of parameters during a trial-and-error calibration. An application example of this approach to a confined aquifer in middle Venetian plain, (Treviso, Northeastern Italy) is presented. Ordinary kriging was used to estimates hydraulic conductivity distribution from slug test and step drawdown tests at the nodes of a finite difference grid used in a three-dimensional numerical model implemented with MODFLOW-2005 code (Harbaugh, 2005). Several zonations of hydraulic conductivity was tested during the manual calibration of a steady-state simulation. Zonation schemes, defined on the basis of the kriged estimation variance, was used to reach a reasonable compromise between the reduction of parameter to be estimated and the explicit representation of the heterogeneous hydraulic conductivity distribution.
