Sažetak
An eco-certified product is a product that has passed the severe control that confirms that the manufacturer has used renewable raw materials and non-toxic components, taken into account the well-being of his employees and ensured the disposal of production waste in an acceptable manner. The purpose of the eco- design is to prevent that the product has a negative impact on the environment, to reduce the production of waste and emissions during all stages of the product’s life cycle by adding the environmental aspect to the traditional characteristics of a product, such as its functionality, appearance, price, safety and ergonomics. By choosing responsibly an eco- certified product, the consumer shows his/her positive attitude towards the environment, while the producer, by eco-certifying his products, contributes to the sustainable development. This article analyses the importance and the possibilities of applying environmental standards in the furniture and equipment making sector, while emphasising the current demands and, in that way, indicating current trends in furniture making with the application of the eco-design, with an overview of possibilities for obtaining an “Eco-label” for Croatian final wood-based products.
