Sažetak
Over the years, demand for emergency medical services has been growing rapidly. Continuous co- operation of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) with other participants in the emergency care process ensures the provision of urgent health care measures, urgent transport of ill and injured to appropriate health care facilities and health care during transportation. Helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) is an alternative mean of transport to the existing road emergency medical service, and it is meant to complement and expand the traditional emergency medical services. Helicopter emergency medical service is important in order to assure all citizens’ health and welfare over the entire country. Road emergency vehicles are suitable when the accident sites are close and easy to reach. Helicopters are more complex with many different advantages, and are capable of reaching any site ; also, they can be used in all weather conditions, with the change of temperature, air pressure and wind. The paper is focused on the synergy of traditional (road) and helicopter emergency medical services in order to improve medical care process after an accident. The paper outlines the model of organisation and coordination of road and helicopter emergency medical services.
