Sažetak
This presentation will deliver some results from the project „Research of structure and dynamics of illegal drug market in Republic of Croatia”, conducted in cooperation between Office for Combating Drug Abuse (OCDA) and researchers from Department for Criminology at Education and Rehabilitation Faculty, University of Zagreb. The project was carried out in 2017. Main goal of the project was to obtain data in order to better understand the structure and the dynamics of the illegal drug market in Croatia with emphasis on the role of the juveniles within the illegal drug market. Starting point for this research was data obtained through previous research focused on the problem of secondary criminality in connection with drug abuse conducted in 2016 by the researches from the Department of Criminology through analysis of the official documents from prisons and police documentation, interviews with convicted adults for drug trafficking and specially designed questionnaires for this specific study. The results have pointed out some specific aspects of juvenile’s role in the organization, dynamics and functioning of the illegal drug market in Republic of Croatia. This presentation aims to show how juveniles participate in the drug market and their involvement in criminal lifestyle from their own perspective. The sample for this project consisted of 24 juveniles (under 18 years) currently placed in a juvenile correctional facility and 156 adults convicted for illegal drug production and trafficking, enabling of drug abuse and illegal production and trafficking of substances forbidden in sports, that were serving their sentence in correctional institutions. The data were collected through questionnaires for adults and juveniles specifically designed for this study, as well as through interviews with 5 adult and 12 juveniles with experience in drug trafficking. Quantitative data was processed by descriptive statistic while qualitative data was analyzed through compressing, structuring and explication by principles of inductive thematic analysis. Interpretation of the results are from the perspective of the research participants - the way they are explain and connect different aspect of their role in drug trafficking, some possible causes and outcomes, information and opinions.
