Sažetak
The discussion on the place and function of social sciences and the humanities in engineering education has been recently enriched by the historical and empirical research efforts which allow for a better understanding of that subject in a cross- national perspective. This chapter outlines and contextualizes, from a socio-historical perspective, the development of the introduction and features of the integration of social sciences and the humanities in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. The main features of this development are specified through an elaboration of the three main phases which suggest not only its continuity, but also the key challenges regarding the contingent character of the Faculty's organisational and the Croatian social, political and cultural context
