Sažetak
Ivanić-Grad is one of the few cities in the EU where hydrocarbon exploitation has been taking place for decades almost entirely in urban area. As the abandonment of oil wells is approaching, it is necessary to extend the life-time of the reservoir by exploiting geothermal energy from the oil filed. This paper analyses the technical possibility and economic feasibility of geothermal energy exploitation in form of district heating system by retrofitting certain oil wells, together with the institutional aspect and contributions to the European strategic goals. The project is extremely complex in all segments from the preparation of documentation, technical - technological solution and accompanying legislation that needs to be re-defined. Process will require cooperation of local administration, state bodies and the oil industry in all stages. The state administration should be consulted in order to obtain permits for exploitation from an oil aquifer. This paper provides guidelines for the energy transition of the oil industry to become the producer of “green energy” in the 21st century. The production of geothermal energy from the oil field based on Case study of City of Ivanić-Grad has been analysed as a model for similar application in other locations with geothermal potential.
