Sažetak
This presentation discusses the role of populist leaders in the current global crisis of democracy. It starts with the diagnosis of the global condition in the last forty years, its development, causes and consequences, among which the rise of populist leaders across the globe is the prominent one. Furthermore, it develops a conceptual framework of their ideologies and behavior, which tries to indicate when such leaders become a threat to the liberal democracy. Finally it discusses what is to be done to protect and improve the strength of liberal democratic institutions from authoritarian tendencies of populist leaders.
