Sažetak
Due to the fact that Iron is common in any environment, including the laboratory equipment, tools and inventory, it represents great challenge for trace Iron (Fe) analysis, especially in active pharmceutical ingredient samples. This study was conducted to determine Fe contamination and to provide adequate method for wet etching of supposedly clean laboratory glassware. Iron adhered tenaciously to glassware that had been well washed and rinsed by usual methods (detergent, HNO3 and distilled water) and was removed only by washing the glassware with combination of acids (with Aqua Regia and also with combination of HCl:H2O2:deionized water at a ratio of 1:1:5). Variability sometimes noted in Fe determinations could possibly be attributed to Fe contamination on glassware. Our data showed that glassware should be washed with an appropriate acides mixture before subsequent determinations of Fe. Although ICP-MS is a powerful multi-element analytical technique, it does suffer from some welldocumented spectral interferences, which can be especially problematic when complex and variable samples are analyzed. These interferents are major reasons that less abundant isotopes of Fe are utilized in their respective analyses, which directly results with lower sensitivities and thus higher detection limits. The use of He collision mode provides a unique mode of operation, in which all the isotopes become detectable. The object of this study provides adequate method for overcoming contaminations, matrix and polyatomic interferences and presents parameters of a method for successfull Fe determination by using ICP-MS hellium collision gas mode.
