Sažetak
It has been found that wines of different grapevine varieties are better at a certain type of soil, respectively at a certain location. The purpose of the present research was to establish the method for the authentication of the wine geographical origin by relating concentrations of chemical elements measured in wines and respective soils. Wine and soil samples were analyzed using the EDXRF. The wine analysis has been conducted on samples pre-concentrated by freeze-drying. Since EDXRF is a non-destructive analytical method, its main advantage is preservation of volatile wine compounds. It has been shown that the log(cwine)/log(csoil) concentration ratios of elements Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Br, Rb, and Sr are the best discriminators to distinguish the wine varieties according to their geographical origin. Results are presented for more than 200 wines of different varieties and their corresponding soils, and each Croatian wine region was presented by at least one wine producer.
