Sažetak
Lawyer profession is a mainstay of any modern legal system, represeting a fundamental role in the defence of human rights and freedoms. Originating in the ancient era, it has constantly developed to reflect new circumstances, while at the same time being based on a rich tradition. The primary purpose of this article is to examine the sustainability of the lawyer profession in the world of today in general, especially in regard to modernization, the phenomenon of globalization and the introdiction of new technologies. Based on these broad considerations, the analysis will be furthered by a case study – the example of Croatia, whose circumstances will be examined in regard to the question of (legal) education on one hand and accessibility to the lawyer profession as compared to accessibility to other legal profession on the other. Lastly, the question of sustainable development of the lawyer profession will be examined and possible measures for their practical value. In this context, the social value of lawyer profession for the purpose of social sustainability will be given special consideration.
