Sažetak
During archaeological research 1984/85 on Vučedol site (Vukovar, Croatia) a large amount of animal bones was found. Near 15, 000 animal bone fragments from that site were taken to the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. All remains originate from eneolithic (Baden, Kostolac and Vučedol) culture, i. e. according to radiocarbon and thermoluminiscence dating, from 3400-2200 B. C. As a part of that material we examined dog (Canis familiaris) mandibles by the radiovisiography method. Our intention was to compare subfossil mandible fragment density with that of recent dogs. First results show significantly different bone density of the procesus coronoideus mandible, which has higher density in Vučedol dogs than in recent specimens of the similar size and type of life.
