Sažetak
Introduction Malnutrition in the elderly population with a known high prevalence has an important impact on the frequency of complications, mortality and morbidity during acute treatment. Our goal was to assess the malnutrition in a geriatric rehabilitation-population. Methods This study included 357 patients aged minimum 65 years with a range up to 100 years (mean 83.6 years) who were admitted to the geriatric rehabilitation department. A Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) test was carried out in different age groups and statistically evaluated. Results Our results show a malnutrition prevalence of 31.7% among the patients and a further 36.1% found the risk of malnutrition. According to our data analysis the prevalence and the risk increases with age and is above all the highest in the oldest patients (≥91 years) -79.2%. Conclusions The geriatric population over the age of 65 has a high malnutrition prevalence and an increased risk of malnutrition. In addition to malnutrition, multi-morbidity, inadequate physical activity and the worsening of acute illness lead to reduced performance and body function. The malnutrition screening must therefore be considered in the rehabilitation planning to achieve the desired rehabilitation goals.
