Sažetak
HEALTH SITUATION IN CROATIAN MARICULTURE Čolak S.1, Zrnčić S.2, Oraić D.2 1 CROMARIS, Zadar, Croatia ; 2 Croatian Veterinary Institute, Laboratory for fish pathology, Zagreb, Croatia Cultivation of marine species, mainly European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and Gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) is the most important aquaculture activity along the eastern Adriatic coast. There are some twenty farms where Cromaris is the biggest one with annual production of 5600 tons. In addition to sea bass and sea bream, meagre (Argyrosomus regius), dentex (Dentex dentex) and European flatfish (Psetta maxima) are also cultivated on the Cromaris farms as experimental production. Hatchery has capacity of 30-35 millions fry. The diseases are the most important constraints of successful cultivation and in this paper we shall present diseases endangering the Croatian mariculture industry. Still, one of the most important diseases is vibriosis caused by Vibrio (Listonella) anguillarum followed by “myxobacteriosis” caused by Tenacibaculum maritimum. Vibrio harveyi was found to be responsible for outbreaks of high rate mortality in Cromaris farms. Losses caused by parasites are of importance, especially by monogeneans Sparicotyle chrysophrii and Diplectanum aequans, copepod Lernanthropus kroyeri and isopod Ceratothoe oestroides. Recently, VER/VNN was introduced to several farms and the outbreaks with significant mortalities were recorded. There were no cases of betanoda virus infection on Cromaris farms and all cases of diseases with neurological symptoms are submitted to virological examination. In addition to the above listed pathogens losses that can be attributed to insufficient knowledge of the physiological requirements of newly introduced species and eventually implemented inadequate farming technology. Epidemiology, clinics and management (prevention and control) of each disease will be presented.
