Sažetak
PURPOSE. To find out whether the use of various viscoelastic substances effects postoperative endothelial cell number and morphology, intraocular pressure and pachymetry. METHODS. This is a prospective, randomized study in 152 patients undergoing PHACO and foldable IOL implantation. Patients were randomly assigned to three groups based on type of viscoelastic used: 1, 4% sodium hyaluronate (Healon GV) 4% sodium chondroitin sulfat - 3% sodium hyaluronate (Viscoat) and 3% hyaluronate (Vitrax). Endothelial cell count was determined centrally with a specular microscope, one day before, seventh day and one month after surgery. Intraocular pressure and pachymetry were measured at the same time. All surgeries were performed by two surgeons using the same technique. RESULTS. Endothelial cells loss was lowest in eyes protected with Viscoat: 6, 1%. In Healon GV group cell loss was 7, 6%, and in Vitrax group 7, 9%. Eyes protected with Viscoat showed the lowest morphology change rate compared to other groups. CONCLUSION. Endothelial cells loss and morphology changes after the use of three different viscoelastic substances in PHACO + PCIOL are lowest in Viscoat group. There was no statistically significant difference in intraocular pressure and pachymetry changes between these three groups.
