Sažetak
Both domestically and internationally, the multicultural workforce has become a reality. The impact of multiculturalism varies significantly with the type of environment and the organization's overall strategy. The progression from a relative lack of importance of culture to its importance, both concerning the organization's external environment as well as to its internal organizational culture, underlies the growing recognition that today's executives and managers must work effectively in multinational and multicultural teams if they are to succeed. Research has shown that styles of leadership, motivation and decision making, planning, organizing, staffing and controlling vary among different cultures. What happens when people from dissimilar cultures work together on a day-to-day basis? This paper focuses on cross- cultural interaction and provides answers to the following questions: What types of problems does diversity cause within work teams? What benefits accrue from multicultural teams? What does management need to do to maximize the benefits and minimize the problems caused by diversity?
