Sažetak
Background The new Professional training for pharmacists program, based on Croatian Competency Framework (CCF), was introduced at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry University of Zagreb in 2016. CCF is used for evaluation and self-evaluation of both students and mentors during the pre-registration training. Aim To further explore whether the CCF served as a good basis for the Professional training for pharmacists’ program, and to gain insights into reasons why certain behavioural statements were annotated as “not-applicable”. Method After completing self-evaluation by using the CCF, pharmacist-preceptors were asked to participate in a focus group. Four focus groups comprising 37 pharmacist-preceptors were organised and moderated by a pharmacist researcher and an assistant. Themes that needed to be addressed during the panel session were as follows: 1) Is the Professional training for pharmacists program in accordance with the community pharmacy practice? ; 2) Applicability of the CCF in student assessment during the Professional training for pharmacists ; 3) Reasons for certain behavioural statements being interpreted as “not-applicable”? Results A proportion (89, 2 %) of pharmacist-preceptors considered CCF as helpful in everyday practice in community pharmacies during the Professional training for pharmacists, 10, 8 % were uncertain whether it follows actual practice in community pharmacies, while two respondents considered CCF as confusing. Pharmacists unanimously (n = 37) agreed that they misunderstood the self-assessment process and hence thought that if a certain competency and/or behaviour cannot be conducted in their place of work it is inapplicable. After discussing and explaining certain behavioural statements written in a vague manner, pharmacist-preceptors considered all behavioural statements as applicable and that they should therefore stay incorporated in the CCF. Conclusion The majority of pharmacist-preceptors considered the CCF as a good basis for designing the Professional training for pharmacists program. Deeper exploration of pharmacist-preceptors’ experience of their self- assessment by using the CCF reviled that some behavioural statements were not clear and implied the need of explaining certain behaviours in a more detailed manner.
