Sažetak
Over the last twenty years, the deployment and use of the European Train Control System (ETCS) on major routes of developed European countries has been in full swing. However, the expected benefits associated with undisturbed international as well as national train traffic have not yet fully taken root. One form of enhancement of interoperability is Specific transmission module (STM), whose function is to temporarily bridge the differences between different national train protection systems and the newer common ETCS system. Given that a new AP STM device is coming to the market soon, the article specifically looks at the combination of STM technology for the Indusi system, one of the most widely used national train protection systems in Europe. Apart from the above, an overview of the available solutions for its realization is given, with reference to the overall development of the new AP STM device. As the application of STM technology is primarily related to the installation of STM devices on rolling stock in the domain of railway undertakings, the specific challenges encountered by the railway undertakings in the territory of the countries using the Indusi system are discussed.
