Sažetak
Special collections within national libraries comprise in their holdings material of significant cultural value. That is also the case with the holdings of Music Collection of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NUL). In the context of the heritage in its whole, it should be mentioned material like notated music as well as the sound representations of music. Holdings of notated music, especially manuscripts, are unique and irreplaceable music source for music research as well as the collection of sound recordings that brings together so-called historical recordings along with the more recent issues of national music production. With its specific ways of distribution and media releases, sound collection raises many challenges in content preservation, but it seems that the importance of preserving that kind of material has not gained enough of community awareness. Hence, it is the obligation of the institutions, especially those with heritage resources to give the priority of safeguarding of sound recordings, referring to recent guidelines, standards and best practices for long-term preservation. In the presentation, there will be introduced activities concerning preservation along with the functionalities of selected various music material from Music Collection available through Digital collections of the NUL.
