Sažetak
Ionising radiation is used in many different ways and for different purposes in medicine. First, it is used both in diagnosing (radiology and in nuclear medicine) and therapy. When diagnosing diseases at an early stage, the amount of ionising radiation must be adequate to its specific purpose. In therapeutic medical exposures, the usage of ionising radiation is acceptable for treating malignant diseases. Benign diseases (e.g. hyperthyreosis), on the other hand, do not always have to be treated with ionising radiation. The intention of this paper is to discuss the main sources of influence on public perception of the (in) sufficiency of radiation protection in diagnosing and treating diseases in medicine.
