Sažetak
In the age of the Forth Technical Revolution general data protection has increasingly been considered essential milestone in reinforcing citizens’ fundamental rights. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) aims at setting more consistent standards for data protection and stronger rule enforcement. On the individual level, European citizens should have enhanced control and security over their personal data. On the business side, free flow of data is crucial for efficient freedom of movements of goods and capital within the Single Market. The EU policy makers envisioned this Regulation to support both big digital industries and start-ups through the system of data portability. This policy should therefore raise dynamics and competitiveness of the Digital Single Market. The purpose of this paper is to identify and examine possible costs of compliance for businesses and benefits of the implementation of GDPR on the Croatian market. By reviewing the existing analyses and conducting purposive sampling interviews, this paper will add both to theoretical and empirical body of literature on the most up-to- date data protection topic in Croatia and EU.
