Sažetak
The intangible cultural heritage (ICH) safeguarding policy in Croatia is in accord with the UNESCO approach, and it is based on the long practical and theoretical efforts and results of various researchers, scientists and institutions which have cooperated with bearers and local communities. The Ministry of Culture established an instrument of inscribing the ICH elements (more than hundred until 2012) in the Registry of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia. Some of the elements from the national Registry were inscribed on UNESCO’s two lists: the Representative List of the ICH of Humanity (nine), and the List of ICH in Need of Urgent Safeguarding (one). The listing, besides visibility, contributes greatly to further evaluation, research, transmission and documenting of those elements, but also of all other elements. One of the challenges of ICH safeguarding has been the transmission of the elements to the younger generations, some reasons including the lack of motivation and no need for consummation of the intangible knowledge and its products. Besides the listing of the elements, different measures, such as planning, research, education and cooperation on all levels need to be taken to secure the transmission and prevent disappearance and degradation of ICH.
