Sažetak
The icon of the Virgin Mary of the Trsat has been the subject of research by historians, theologians and art historians for centuries. One of the elements debated by the researchers is the information given around 1530 by Girolamo Angelita, secretary of the city of Reccanati, that the painting was donated by Pope Urban V in 1367 to the people of Illyricum. Recently prevalis the opinion that the painting was comissioned between 1310 and 1330. Based on stylistic, iconographic- iconological and historiographic analysys, the author tries to explore throughly whether the hypotesis about the emergence of the miraculous image from Trsat during the reign of Count Bartol VIII of Krk and his sons John (Anž) and Stephen may be more acceptable. The author pays special attention to the identification of the saints portrayed on the lateral panels of the triptych, taking into account the new observations about the original condition of the panels, presented by Mario Braun at the conference held in Trsat on 17 November 2017. He introduced new insights in the image before the various inpaintings and retouches done on the painting, as a result of a recent thorough examination and based on the documentation of the restoration procedure carried out in 1991.
