Sažetak
“ Tramata” fishing or fishing using vibrating ropes is a very old method and it is unique to the Eastern Adriatic. It is the main commercial method of fishing of seabream (Sparidae) species. This paper describes the gear, methods and exploitation characteristics of tramata fishing, based on research conducted from 1986 to 1999. Also, some parameters (length range, mean length, modal length and the parameters of the total length-weight relationship, length at first maturity, spawning period) are given for the dominant seabream species in catches from tramata fishing. Evaluation of its harmful effect on fish in coastal areas has been made according to the percentage of immature specimens in the catches.
