Sažetak
Preparative „Bee Vital Hive Clean“ (BVHC) is declared as a food additive for honey bees which is effectively decreasing the population of the Varroa mites, and is also advertised to increase vitality, and cleaning activities of the colonies. Preparative is present on the EU market, and in Croatia, and as it is ecologically acceptable, many beekeepers are willing to try using it as the only preparative against Varroa. In surroundings of Rijeka, Varroa is controlled by two main treatments: first one is in winter, when no brood is present in the colonies, usually with oxalic acid, and second treatment is at the end of summer by choumaphos based medicaments, or by rotenone in stripes. In last years, many times, due to the reinvasion from the neighbouring apiaries, or faster development of mites, late summer treatment has proven to be too late for keeping Varroa under the control. For this reason, it was needed to check an ecologically acceptable treatment (as the honey is usually still in hives). In summer 2010, before the normal late summer treatment, in colonies with all stages of brood, the single treatment with preparative BVHC was used on 30 colonies on 2 apiaries in surroundings of Rijeka, Croatia. Control was done on 40 colonies on neighbouring 2 apiaries, were colonies were treated by rotenone in stripes. Comparison of the success was done recently before the usual late summer treatment. Varroa infestation was controlled by the method described by Büchler et al. in ADIZ 2005. Colonies treated by BVHC have increased their mite population in 10 days interval from initial 1, 10% to 1, 13% on one apiary and from 1, 42% to 1, 51% on second apiary, while rotenone in stripes at controlled colonies decreased mite population from 1, 93% To 0, 15% on first apiary and from 2, 23% to 0, 40% on second apiary.
