Sažetak
Due to relatively closely placed apiaries, a constant beekeeping problem in Rijeka region is reinvasion of Varroa destructor mites in the mid summer. For this purpose, it was checked if a single treatment with the half of the recommended rotenone doses may be ecologically and financially more convenient then using the full doses of the same preparative for an interceptive treatment. The use of rotenone in stripes has proven to be an effective way for keeping the influence of Varroa destructor on honey bee colonies under the control. It has succesfully been used in last ten years in parts of Croatia and Slovenia, with no signes of resistence against it. However, as the lowest effective concentration of rotenone in stripes was not yet investigated, it was checked if 50% lower dosis might be effective in varroa treatment. This was also a pilot experiment by which we wanted to check if it would make seance in the future to do research on efficiancy of treatment with even lowerer dosis of the one currently used. Varroa treatment with half of the recommended doses was tested on the apiary Kacjak near Rijeka on 25 equally strong colonies. Samples of the bees were collected recently before and 10 days after the treatment and analysed by the method described by Büchler et. al. in ADIZ 2005. Infestation level before the treatment was 1, 52%. After the treatment it fell on 0, 24%. Efficacy of half dosis of rotenone in stripes has from the practical point ov view, proven to be similar to the one of a full doses, compared with the results from the last year and on the parallel apiaries. Obtained results have shown that it is probably possible to use even lower concentrations in practical beekeeping, which is promissing for further use of the rotenone in stripes.
