Sažetak
The 19th century is known as the century of the birth of the nations, so the Croatian nation is also created then. Croatian National Revival was supposed to overcome territorial and linguistic disunity within the Habsburg monarchy. Although the Catholic Church is anational, in Croatia (Triune Kingdom) it is the Church who played an important role in creating a modern nation. There are various reasons why priests were members of the National Revival: from the absence of a strong civil layer which is elsewhere in the Europe perennial of the nation's movements to the fact that there is no secularization due to conservative liberalism in Triune Kingdom. It is also important to note the presence of Josephinist heritage and the fact that Croatia is a rural country with a large percentage of illiterate people. All of this has led to an active engagement of priests in the creation of the Croatian nation. The intent of this report is to clarify the ways and the reasons why the clergy participate in national revival and repercussions of the above. In the first part of the report we will explain the political situation in the Triune Kingdom before and during the National Revival. Then we will clarify the position and the role of the Catholic Church in the National Revival.
