Sažetak
The Purpose of this paper is to provide a brief account of the use and the meaning of the term ship in Croatian maritime law. The author starts with the classification and definitions of vessels and other maritime objects as provided in the Maritime Code of the Republic of Croatia. Special attention has been paid to the legal term ship that entails the application of special regulations of maritime law. An outline of basic characteristics of the term ship, as well as of other vessels in terms of maritime administrative law and property law is provided. Particular emphasis is placed on the specific features of the legal status of platforms within the Croatian legislative framework. Some examples of the meaning of the term ship in the context of application of certain parts of the Code are mentioned. The author concludes that the application of the maritime law is expanding to include vessels and other maritime objects whose purpose is not exclusively navigation.
