Sažetak
European hake is one of the most important fish in the Eastern Adriatic. It has been caught by trawls, gillnets, longlines and other fishing gear. Research for the evaluation of the gillnets on hake population has been conducted in the Velebit channel. Total of 3881 specimens of hake and other fish and marine organisms have been caught during research with commercial fishermen. Hake represented 70, 9 % of total weight. Results obtained from analysed data showed that such gillnets are not harmfull for hake population and therefore no alternation of gillnet characteristics has been proposed.
