Sažetak
Croatia faced a sort of museum boom after 1995 when museums, damaged in the Homeland war were renewed with new permanent displays and new museums were founded. Archeological museums are an important aspect of this situation. In this group, special attention is given to the newly founded the Narona Archeological Museum (2005), the Museum of Ancient Glass (2006), the Vučedol Culture Museum (2013), the Museum of Apoxyomenos (2015) and the refurbished Krapina Neanderthal Museum (2010). These are public institutions founded by the state or local community. The majority of these museums were built in situ, on archeological sites known before ; however, their collections are mainly the result of recent archeological research. Apart of its role as researchers, keepers and presenters of valuable heritage, that often used to be exposed to all sorts of devastations and relocation of artifacts to foreign museums and private collections, archeological museums today play active role in social identity, and represent a token for prosperous future with economic effects in their regions. The mentioned museums keep the live attention of their audience and communicate with it with the help of workshops and educational campaigns that they frequently organize. They are listed as the most prosperous museums in Croatia, and the importance of their collections often go beyond national importance.
