Sažetak
According to WHO definition, health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well- being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity and public health is a preventative rather than a therapeutic aspect of health care. It deals with health problems at the community and not on the individual level. Therefore, there are numerous interlinkages between climate change adaptation strategy and preventive health or environmental health or health ecology. During the oral presentation Climate change adaptation and health - Health risk assessment challenges in Croatia, Ph.D. Matijana Jergović, MD, specialist in epidemiology and a narrow specialist in environmental health, outlined the basic differences in definitions of health, public health and preventive measures in the health care system (i.e. primary, secondary and tertiary health care). An analogy of types of health prevention with respect to mitigation and adaptation measures was presented. On example of the extreme weather condition/heat effects on food and water safety, air and soil quality and socio-economic health treats as a consequence of climate change were be communicated. The advantages and capacities of the existing public health system was underlined. Importance of the planning, monitoring, assessment and management of all environmental health factors related to climate change were highlighted. The importance of creating a climate change meta-data national system was emphasized. In addition to the recommendations of national key measures, risk assessment barriers regarding the climate change health and disaster emergency management were highlighted. This presentation will encourage you to explore the support for the innovative product or processes with risk assessment potential. Because more efficient risk management is imperative during the climate change adaptation process.
