Sažetak
Due to the negative impact of the climate changes, i.e. occurrence of extreme precipitations, as well as human activity, overflow of water from watercourses, as well as floods are occurring very often. It is very hard, even impossible to predict their appearance, despite all the available knowledge, procedures and modern technologies for their tracking. There is a need for innovative solutions, which should prevent, or at least mitigate the flooding of urban and rural areas. ''Monkey Cheek'' concept for flood protection was invented in Thailand from their King Bhumibol Adulyadei. Idea is based from particular behavior of monkeys when they are eating food. Monkeys collect food in their mouth and eat later. By this way, i.e. by imitation of mentioned monkey behavior, flooding water could be collected and stored in reservoirs, canals and unused space, and lately used for irrigation or just simple turned back into the watercourse. In the most of cases, collected water must be pumped to distant or higher location. Renewable energy is very promising, and also only available option for production of electric energy for water pumping. Last mentioned relates to available renewable energy sources, as well as space constraints. It should be noted that presented concept of flood protection has negligible impact on the environment.
