Volume contains 28 articles by thirty authors and is divided into three parts, each discussing different aspects of political and social history. The book covers a long period, from the Early Middle Ages to the sixteenth century, and a wide space, reaching from Romania, Hungary, Ukraine and Russia in the East and North to Croatia in the West and the Balkans in the South, so reflecting the interests of the volume’s individual contributors. The first part addresses matters connected with the formation, development and transformation of states, the second deals with interactions in the legal and social sphere, while the third part is devoted to towns and cities, discussing changes and developments in medieval urban history.
