Sažetak
Contract bridge is a mind sport played by people of all types and from all walks of life. In this current study, we compare players who engage in the game more or less frequently. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between the frequency of playing bridge and demographics and some indicators of well-being. The research was conducted online via comprehensive battery of questionnaires related to playing games in general and well- being. The questionnaire was in English, open to all adults, and shared via social networks. Although the main target group was bridge players, others could participate as well. Out of the total sample of 502 respondents, only those who play bridge at least a few times a year were selected for this study (N=121). Those were divided into two groups: The first group consisted of 83 players who play bridge at least once per week. The majority of them were male, full-time employed, married with kids, holding a university degree, with the average age of 45.9 (sd = 17.17). The other group consisted of 38 individuals who played bridge at least once a month. The majority of them were male but they were mostly students and single with no kids (61%) and the average age was 38.4 (sd = 18.31). The two groups did not differ in the level of happiness or satisfaction with health, but those who played more often were significantly older. To make groups more comparable, we selected only participants under 40 years of age and compared them regarding the studied variables. The group of frequent players under 40 comprised 28 participants, while the group of seldom-playing comprised 25 participants. The comparison of these two groups showed that the participants who played bridge at least once per week rated their health better, were more satisfied with their personal relationships, and received more social support.
