Sažetak
This paper describes George Biddell Airy's almost completely unknown method of approximating orthodromic arc (great circle arc) using a circular arc in the normal aspect Mercator projection. In addition, it is demonstrated how Airy's circle arc can be constructed using three points and formulas are provided which can be used to compare lengths of chords and Airy's arc of circle on a Mercator chart with the actual length of the orthodromic arc.
