Sažetak
During the 1950’s Gornja Dubarava experienced a rapid increase in population, it merges with the City of Zagreb and losing its present characteristics of the suburbs which consequently led to the changes in vegetation cover of the former rural and present urban areas. Therefore, the target area was mapped and digitized using the remote sensing method. The main advantage and goal of remote sensing is to obtain information quickly and economically in relatively large areas. Mapping the Gornja Dubrava area was carried out using archival and recent orthophoto images from 1968 and 2018 with Quantum GIS 2.18.28. Las Palmas program. It was determined that the total area is approximately 1.5 km2. The study sought to determine the change of vegetation cover and habitat due to the rapid expansion of the population. The biggest change occurred in expansion of residential areas, which was the premise itself, and arable land, meadows, orchards greatly reduced their acreage. The area of forests, as compared between 1968 and 2018, also recorded an increase, due to the lack of maintenance and abandoned of their own plots and the process of progressive succession of vegetation.
