Sažetak
It is amazing that in the age of IT, despite the availability of alternative promotional tools, such as e-brochures and websites, which are easily accessible, hard print travel guides still remain as popular as ever because they can act as a substitute for a product which cannot be physically seen or inspected prior to consumption. Also, tour operators can hardly standardize their products and services due to many uncontrollable factors (e.g. the weather). To maximize their persuasive power, tourism guides are found to be loaded with hyperbolic language and glamorous images. The question we would like to answer is how far this classical structure and the accompanying communication strategies still meet the requirements of their users. Accordingly, the purpose of this research is to analyze the communication and manipulation strategies of travel guides and consequently to offer some suggestions in order to modernize them and make more effective.
