Sažetak
Background: The Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised is a valid and reliable measure of three different aspects of birth satisfaction: Stress experienced during labour, Women’s personal attributes, and Quality of care. Aims and Objectives: The objective of this study was to test the psychometric properties of the Croatian version of the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised with respect to the factor structure, validity and reliability. Method: In an online study, 552 women filled out the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised, subscale Satisfaction with Delivery from the Childbirth Perception Questionnaire, and a set of questions on demographic and obstetric data. Results: The Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed the excellent fit of both the three-factor model and the two-factor model (with Stress and Women’s attributes combined into one factor), with no significant difference between the two models. Furthermore, bi-factor modelling revealed a general factor of experience of childbirth which explains the variance of items from Stress and Women’s attributes subscales, while Quality of care is best explained by specific factor. The internal consistency was high for the total scale (α = .85). The scale correlated moderately with Satisfaction with Delivery thus implying high convergent validity. Women who gave birth by unassisted vaginal birth and planned caesarean section reported higher levels of birth satisfaction, suggesting high discriminant validity. Interpretation / Discussion: A three-factor model is supported by both empirical findings and theoretical background as the better conceptualisation of the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised. Conclusions: The Croatian version of the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised is a valid and reliable measure of birth satisfaction for research and practical purposes.
