Sažetak
In this paper the performance and loadings on an Energy Saving Device, particularly circular duct, are investigated in calm water and waves. The approach is based on a Finite Volume viscous computation solving the unsteady RANS equations. Free surface is resolved with the Volume-of-Fluid method for the calm water and with the Level Set in the seakeeping simulations. Ghost Fluid Method is used in both approaches in order to resolve a sharp interface between the two fluids. To reduce the CPU time, actuator disk model is used instead of the direct propeller simulation. Results are compared to available experimental measurements in calm water (wake field, resistance, self- propulsion). Additional simulations are performed in waves and a detailed evaluation of duct loadings is presented along with the duct performance in waves. Simulations are performed by means of OpenFOAM.
