Sažetak
Early childhood is one of the most significant developmental periods of a child. It is a cornerstone for the future child's development. Early childhood is a life period in which a child has no formal obligations. It is a time of play, the most frequent and most favourite children's activity. It gives children countless posibiliy: in play they fantasise, pretend, experiment, perceive the world in and around themselves. Play is a training ground for acquiring and practicing numerous life skills: negotiating, agreement, cooperation, and problem solving. Transition from kindergarten to school is an exceptional moment in a child's life, and in the lives of those close to him/her. When starting school, a child takes on a new role and becomes a student. He/she is perceived through the prism of new obligations set by the school environment. The educational system should provide the opportunity of continuous transition from one part of the system to the other.
