Sažetak
Preventive educational programs and awareness campaigns conducted at national or international level aim to increase awareness of risks at level crossings. Traditionally, they primary consist of lectures and safety tips on leaflets aimed at the general public. However, generations change and adapt to the times they live. The latest generation, the so- called Generation Z, is the first generation to fully grow up in the "digital" age. This means that, preventive educational programs must also be adapted to contemporary generations of young people. Therefore, we created a VR application “Driving across the level crossing” for education of driver candidates. Main purpose of this application is to give driver candidates opportunity to experience in virtual reality what are consequences of safely and risky driving across level crossing. Testing the VR application is initially made for driving schools but during the pilot testing period application was tested at high schools, faculties and safety centers. The educational intervention with VR application is part of the Croatian national project "Implementation of measures to improve the safety of the most vulnerable traffic participants at level crossings", developed within the framework of the National Programme of Road Traffic Safety of the Republic of Croatia 2011 – 2020. An overall driver candidates educational program including a safety lecture accompanied by pictures, videos and a virtual reality 360° experience will be presented in the presentation.
