Sažetak
Safety and security represent an important dimension in every total quality management system. In this paper we shall be referring to "security" as protection, and to "safety" as freedom from harm and danger. Both oi these terms are, in fact, parts of a greater whole, which is today recognized as risk management. This paper is focused on tourist security and safety - one of the many elements of tourism and hospitality service quality. In broad terms, tourist security and safety comprise all the activities concentrated on preventing events that could endanger the life, health and properly of the tourist. This means that we need to ensure that the tourist feels safe and comfortable and that he returns home healthy and content. In order to achieve that we can use standards such as the ISO standards referring to the safety and security or international standard OHSAS 18001 refining to the health and safety management systems. Security and safety of the tourist is one of the greatest challenges of tourism and the hotel industry in the 2l"t century. The hospitality industry must be prepared to satisfy, this right and demand of the tourist - the guest, because the economic success of the hotel industry and tourism of every individual country will depend on it.
