Sažetak
The practical selection of materials in transformer depends on adequate definition of the operating conditions, e.g. contact fluid, temperature, time, pressure and mechanical requirements. The more critical the service is, the more rigorous the material selection and qualification process should be. Specific materials may be available within several proprietary formulations and the property change of different formulations, when exposed to fluid, may vary according to the additives used. Formulations and additives are very often considered confidential and it is therefore necessary to test material compatibility prior to use. When in contact with insulating fluids, elastomers can undergo physical and chemical changes. In case when plasticizers and other additives are dissolved in insulating fluid, or leached out, properties of insulating fluid can be changed to a great extent. Chemical composition of insulating fluid can be changed and consequently its ability to withstand various stresses is threatened. Changes of chemical and physical properties of insulating fluid arising from incompatibility with rubber can cause severe damage to electrical equipment. Some of fluid property changes can be overlooked in compatibility tests. Chemical consequences of rubber incompatibility with insulating fluids will be presented in this paper.
