Sažetak
Aim: Histometrical assessment of kinetics of bone resorption during experimental apical periodontitis. Methodology: Experimental model consisted of 7 mongrel dog&#8217 ; s (5 experimental and 2 control). 16 lower premolar&#8217 ; s root served as experimental and 9 as a control. We induced apical periodontitis by exposing the pulp to the oral environment for 20, 35, 50 and 65 days respectively. The undecalcified samples of teeth in resected mandibular alveolar bone were embedded in methylmethacrylate and cut in 5 &micro ; m serial longitudinal sections. Sections were stained with toluidin blue and periapical lesion assessed for histometrical data by image measuring system (Sform, VAMS, Zagreb, Croatia). The horizontal length (HL) was defined as the longest bucco-lingual dimension, vertical length (VL) as the longest dimension of the lesion in direction of the root axis. The area (A) of the lesion was marked drawing into the line, which connects the surface of the resorbed bone and the root apex and was estimated by the image measuring system. The data were analysed statistically by the ANOVA with post-hoc test. Results: The measured values in the I group (20 days) were: HL=2.70&plusmn ; 0.71mm, VL=3.26&plusmn ; 1.77mm, A=4.81&plusmn ; 2, 30mm2. Prolongation of the experimental period resulted with statistically significant decrease of HL and A (p Ł 0.05) in the IV group (65 days) in comparison with all other groups. The measured values in the IV group (65 days) were: HL=1.98&plusmn ; 0.69mm, VL=2.52&plusmn ; 0.81mm, A=2.91&plusmn ; 1.26mm2. Conclusion: Periapical lesions were major in the I group and prolongation of experimental period till 65 days causes its decrease in teeth with permanent drainage.
